Laudamus te

This is the third and I believe best recording of this piece. This is from my senior recital, a fellow student played the piano for me.

I sang a Christmas concert at the Unitarian church in HP, I figured that I would put up some selections. I had to do several posts because I don't think that I can put several files on the same post. So even though the text is the same for a bunch of posts the music is different!

They hate this song…

I really should never audition with this song, because I think it's one of the most hated songs for panels to hear. It's quite fun to sing though...

party songs 2

I sometimes get asked to sing when I'm at gatherings or parties. Something that I'm surprisingly shy about, for someone who sings constantly and frequently in front of many people. But what I sing usually does not translate well to "sing for us Emily we're having a jolly time and would like to continue our merriment after listening to you sing a song that we all know and love" because you know, I tend to sing opera.

However there are some songs that I do sing I most usually sing when asked and I have little time to think this little snipit of a jazz song.

What I sing the most (because everyone always asks for it) is the Ballad of Penny Evans. I learned it from listening to Steve Goodman. I always want to cry when I hear it, however you can't cry when you sing. So somehow singing it has taken something away from it for me, but perhaps added something as well....

Laudamus te with orchestra

I have I think three recordings of me singing this piece. This one is from a competition that I won. It was way too slow (almost 2 minutes longer than the other recording) but the conductor was an older guy who just wanted to to it his way.

It actually was a bit of a trial because a day before the performance I walk into the rehearsal only to realize that the orchestra is missing about 16 bars of my music.

After being told that I should just learn it the orchestras way I went back and re-orchestrated the missing parts. Less impressive than it sounds sorry to say, I just sort of split up the piano part...see if you can guess where it is in the recording, it's in two places.
